Why Do Men & Women Need Skincare? – Get Your Answer Here!

Okay, so real talk... I never cared about skincare until I hit like, 25. Before that, my idea of skincare was using whatever face wash was on sale and occasionally stealing my mom’s moisturizer. And you know what? It kind of worked — until it didn’t. One day I woke up, looked in the mirror, and was like... wait, when did my face start looking this tired? Like, no sleep + stress + pollution was catching up. Fast.

And that’s when I started asking around — friends, Instagram reels, even that weird uncle who’s been using sandalwood paste since the '80s (he glows, not even kidding). Turns out, skincare isn’t just for “beauty junkies” or influencers with 47-step routines. It’s just… basic self-care. For literally everyone. Men, women, whatever — skin is skin.

So if you’ve ever thought, “Why do I even need skincare?” — here’s the deal.

Your Skin’s Doing A Lot… Show Some Love?

Think about it. Your skin’s the body’s largest organ — it’s out there dealing with sun, sweat, makeup, heat, blue light, whatever’s in the air (spoiler: it’s gross) and just... existing through it all. And it’s still expected to look good for your next selfie? Yeah no, help it out a bit.

I used to think drinking water was enough. It’s not. Water is great — but skin needs actual products that protect it from UV damage, pollution, and just general aging vibes.

Even guys — especially guys — who’re all like “I wash my face with soap and that’s enough”… please stop. Your skin deserves better. It’s not about going full glam with face masks and jade rollers (unless that’s your thing), but having a few basics — cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen — is like brushing your teeth. Functional. Low-effort. Necessary.

But Do Products Even Work?

Short answer? Yes. Long answer? You have to use the right stuff — not just what’s trending or what your bestie swears by. Everyone’s skin is different. Mine’s oily with occasional breakouts (thanks, PMS). So I go for gel-based moisturizers and gentle exfoliants. My friend has dry skin and lives by serums that sound like potion ingredients.

I remember buying this “miracle” cream once because it was on some list of the best skin care products in India — cost me a bomb, and it literally made me break out for a week straight. Lesson learned: don’t buy stuff just for the hype. Do a patch test. Read reviews. Your skin deserves intention, not panic shopping during a midnight scroll.

That said, some online stores have started curating really solid collections. I recently found a site with a killer offer on skin care products — and it actually included some niche Indian brands I hadn’t heard of before. Worth exploring, tbh.

Skincare ≠ Gendered

Why is skincare still seen as something mostly for women? Like sorry, but men age too. Men get pimples. Men get dry skin and flaky foreheads and under-eye bags and all the stuff women do. Skin doesn’t care what gender you are.

Actually, some of the most low-key glow-up stories I’ve seen are from guy friends who just... started moisturizing. Wild concept, right?

My cousin — 32, corporate job, zero skincare until his wife gave him a “starter kit” for his birthday — now has better skin than me. And all he does is wash, moisturize, and use sunscreen. The basics. The essentials.

It’s not about vanity — it’s about feeling fresh, looking put-together, and maybe aging a little slower. No shame in that.

Okay, But What Should I Use?

Honestly? Start small. And simple. A good cleanser, a basic moisturizer, and sunscreen (yes, even if you’re indoors). That’s your starter pack.

Once you’re consistent with that — like, more than just a week of motivation — you can level up. Maybe a serum for pigmentation. Maybe something exfoliating once or twice a week. Maybe a night cream if you’re feeling fancy.

And if you’re unsure where to begin, look for online reviews or curated lists of the skin care best products — just make sure they’re not ads pretending to be blogs. Happens more often than you think.

Also, don’t forget to check for deals — sometimes you’ll get a full skincare combo at a discount. Keep an eye out for an offer on skin care products, especially during sale seasons or festival times. Diwali deals, Independence Day sales... I’ve stocked up during those and saved a lot

Men need skincare. Women need skincare. You need skincare. It’s not about being high-maintenance — it’s about maintenance, period.

Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. There are plenty of best skin care products in India across price points. Whether you buy from a mall, a local pharmacy, or an indie D2C brand online, just… start.

And trust me — once you get into it, it kinda becomes addictive. Like, self-care in a bottle. Especially after a long day, when you just wanna scrub the world off your face and feel human again.

So yeah... if you’ve been on the fence, consider this your sign. Get a little bottle of glow, and start your skincare era. You’ve earned it
